About Us

Although we knew each other from around CSB/SJU (Kelsey was a campus newspaper editor who covered Sean in the student senate), we really met during study abroad in South Africa our junior year. We hit it off immediately and became great friends, sometimes sharing a bottle of wine on the roof of our apartments while watching the calimari ships across the bay. Kelsey appreciated Sean's enthusiastic dance moves at the bars, and Sean needed Kelsey to help edit his papers.

It wasn't until the following summer that we got especially close, through long phone calls and a visit while Sean was in DC. By the fall semester, we were dating. After Sean graduated a semester early and moved to St. Paul, Kelsey took an internship in the Cities (a 90-minute drive from campus!) so she could see him. We continued living in St. Paul that following summer and fell in love with the Grand Avenue neighborhood and our first apartment together.

That fall, we spent 6 months teaching English in China, including a month of travel around the region, before moving back to the States and ultimately DC. Sean is currently finishing up his masters degree in international affairs from Georgetown, and Kelsey is an analyst on the international team at the polling firm Greenberg Quinlan Rosner.

When Sean spent last summer abroad in Bolivia, Kelsey decided to visit. We made plans to meet in Peru after Sean's internship ended- plans that Kelsey insisted should not include Machu Picchu because she wanted a laid-back, non-mountain-climbing trip (and because she was worried about altitude sickness, which she now admits was unfounded). Our first night in Lima, we ate a fancy dinner in a restaurant at the base of some local ruins. Sean took Kelsey early to explore and ended the tour by proposing. Neither of us remembers exactly what he said, but we do remember Kelsey's response: "Yeah!" The best part of the proposal was that it included a surprise, all-details-planned-and-paid-for trip to Machu Picchu. We spent our fifth anniversary on the mountain - a perfect way to end our summer apart.

The Bride's Party

Taylor Gustafson

Taylor Gustafson

Sister of the bride and maid of honor, Taylor is a music festival guru who once spent a work shift as Aaron Carter's personal assistant.

Sarah Kongs

Sarah Kongs

Sarah and Kelsey met playing volleyball together in middle school (Go MAVs!). Their friendship continued through high school and lives on to this day, largely thanks to their shared love of Fall Out Boy.

Lindsay Havlik

Lindsay Havlik

Kelsey and Lindsay met on Regina G their first year, and had so much fun they stayed roommates for the next three years. Lindsay credits her great fashion sense to the many boxes of clothes lying around the streets of St. Joe.

Jenny Reicks

Jenny Reicks

Jenny and Kelsey were junior and senior roommates at CSB-SJU and bonded over long, late-night talks about philosophy, religion, and dumb jokes. They are now semi-professional spiral staircase models in very high demand.

Elise Foley

Elise Foley

Elise knew Sean first, but was one of the first to welcome Kelsey to the DC fold. They now spend their time together watching American Horror Story, trekking around Turkey, and practicing Elise's lasso skills on Kelsey.

Amy Owens and Erica Forsythe

Amy Owens and Erica Forsythe

Amy and Erica, Kelsey's half-sisters, are co-officiating the wedding. They are older and wiser than Kelsey, and taught her the important things, like to never bet against KU in a March Madness pool and an appreciation for both pinot noir and Bud Select.

Alisha Forsythe

Alisha Forsythe

Alisha is Kelsey's niece and personal attendant. She is also a certified racecar driver, a skill she sometimes puts to use by making late-night McDonald's runs for family weddings.

The Groom's Party

Adam Suter

Adam Suter

Adam is Sean's best man and best older brother. His many years in upstate New York included lots of time waiting in a car with Sean at the border to Canada.

Tanner Prestegard

Tanner Prestegard

Tanner and Sean were high school cross country teammates before Tanner moved on to the U of M to become the next Stephen Hawking. He has won many awards for his impeccable facial hair.

Michael Jaeger

Michael Jaeger

Michael, a med student, is a groomsman and the official wedding medic. Though clearly losing in this photo, Sean admits he is now faster... probably.

Pat Lowder

Pat Lowder

Another cross country teammate, Lowder was always faster than Sean.

Ethan Geiling

Ethan Geiling

Ethan is a DC friend and roommate who sadly left to become Yale's Most Handsome Dan. Ethan is also a caveman at heart, an identity he first took in Turkey, before paleo was even a thing.
